Q) Does IRSI accept credit
cards?
A)
Yes, Visa and Mastercard only
Q) Does IRSI offer financing?
A) Yes, we are working with a
Q) Can you pour SafetyCrete
over River Rock?
A) Yes, SafetyCrete can be
poured and troweled over any hard surfaces such
as; River Rock, Acrylic Deck, SprayCrete, Kooldeck,
wood, concrete, pavers and so on.
Q) Half my deck is Kooldeck and
the other half is wood, can you put SafetyCrete on
both of them so my deck looks like one surface?
A) Yes, we can join any
combination of surface types together so long as
they are a hard surface.
Q) Does IRSI install on brand
new decks?
A) Yes, we can install
SafetyCrete directly on top of the bare concrete
of your new deck. Be sure to call us before
anything is done to your deck though.
Q) My deck has a step down from
the covered area to the area around the pool, how
do you guys deal with that?
A) We can handle this several
ways. We can either install a gentle ramp,
form the step, or simply leave the face of the
step uncovered. This is up to the customer,
however an additional charge for forming on the
face may apply.
Q) My deck is has dips which
create puddles all over my deck, what do you do
about drainage?
A) For an additional charge, we
can install as many drainage lines needed to
eliminate standing water from your deck.
SafetyCrete is installed over the drain so your
deck is seamless. Since SafetyCrete is a
porous material, the water drains through the
SafetyCrete, into the drain and off your deck.
Q) What about standing water
around the edges of my screened enclosure, what do
you do about draining that?
A) We normally drill small
holes through the deck surface on an angle that
lead into the ground. Then we install
SafetyCrete over these drainage holes so you never
see them. Since SafetyCrete is a porous
material, the water drains through the SafetyCrete,
into the drainage holes and off your deck.
Q) Can SafetyCrete be installed
on my driveway?
A) Yes
Q) Can SafetyCrete be installed
in my garage?
A) Yes, we can install
SafetyCrete over any hard surface whether a
driveway, garage, walkway, entry or pool deck.
Q) How long does
SafetyCrete last?
A) On a pool deck with
average family traffic and average sun exposure,
SafetyCrete will last between 15 to 20 years.
With low sun exposure, up to 30 years.
Q) Is SafetyCrete made
from recycled tires?
A) Absolutely NOT!
Our SafetyCrete is made from factory fresh EPDM
virgin rubber. See our section for more details.
Q) Let's say I want
IRSI to do my pool deck, how long will it normally
take?
A) The average
turnaround time we require is between 2 to 3
weeks. However, we may take as long as 90
days to complete your deck depending on weather
conditions and material availability.
Q) What does EPDM
stand for?
A) Ethylene Propylene
Diene Monomer
Q) After you finish my
pool deck, how long before I can walk on it?
A) No persons or pets
can walk on the deck for at least 72 hours.
No furniture can be returned to the deck for at
least 5 days. Basically, we recommend that
your try to stay off the deck and return no
furniture for 7 days just to be safe. If you
let the deck cure for 7 days, you'll have a
beautiful deck for the next 15 to 20 years.
Q) How do you
stop the rubber surface at my pool edge and
skimmer cover?
A) Around the coping
edge of your pool, skimmer cover and doors, we cut
in a peripheral tie-in and then ramp the rubber
slightly down to meet whatever edge we need to be
flush with as well as fill the tie-in. For
more information about peripheral tie-ins, and
scroll to the bottom of the page. This
drawing is not exact, but should give you a good
idea about how we connect your deck to edges.
Q) How thick will the
rubber be on my pool deck?
A) For pool decks,
patios and walkways, we apply 3/8 inch of rubber.
This will be the average thickness across your
entire pool deck. Some areas may have peaks
and valleys, so the thickness may slightly vary in
those areas. The 2 inch system is for
playgrounds, not pool decks.
Q) I would like to
extend my deck out onto a dirt area I have
cleared, can your rubber go over dirt?
A) A resounding NO.
While we can install SafetyCrete over any hard
surface, we cannot install it on top of
dirt. The minimum hard surface we can
install on is 6 inch thick road base, or packed
lime gravel. We need a HARD surface, dirt
just won't do.
Q) What about
SafetyCrete covering my drains?
A) Since SafetyCrete
is a porous product, we cover over your drains
whether they are commercial drains that we
install, or deco drains or gravel trench drains
that came with your house. Your drains will
continue to operate as they always have even with
SafetyCrete covering over the top of them.
Q) How long has IRSI
been in business?
A) IRSI has been in
business since 1999. The owner has been
working with EPDM rubber surfacing since 1991 and
is a master in the field. All of our
installers are also highly skilled with at least 5
years of experience.
Q) I have dogs and
cats. Will they damage my rubber pool deck?
A) Our EPDM
SafetyCrete surfacing has been installed on
playgrounds and theme parks for decades and
handles the abuse of high traffic and even worse,
children at play. Your pets cannot chew on
the surfacing so that won't hurt it. Your
pets claws will have a very difficult time
damaging it. If your pets urinate or
defecate on the rubber deck, there is no problem
with rinsing away with a little bleach and water.
Q) What if I spill
pool chlorine on my deck? Will it damage the
color?
A) While we do not
recommend dumping pool chlorine directly onto your
rubber pool deck, we know for a fact through
extensive testing that pool chlorine nor muriatic
acid will damage the color or integrity of your
rubber pool deck. The reason these chemicals
will not damage your pool deck is because the same
base chemicals used to manufacture our EPDM rubber
granules are the same base chemicals used to
construct the containers that chlorine and
muriatic acid are stored in. However, if you
dump a full 3 gallon jug of pool chlorine on your
rubber pool deck, you will spend a considerable
amount of time rinsing it away. For this
reason, we do not recommend dumping these types of
chemicals in great quantities on your rubber pool
deck.
Q) Can I use bleach to
clean up spills on my pool deck?
A) Yes. We
recommend using up to 20% bleach mixed with 80%
water to clean spill stains on your deck.
The mixture will rinse away easily and quickly
remove the stain.
Q) Can I pressure
clean my rubber pool deck?
A) Yes, you may
pressure clean your rubber pool deck with a
pressure cleaner not exceeding 3000PSI without
causing damage to your deck.
Q) Do I need to worry
about sealing my rubber pool deck the way I would
have to seal riverrock?
A) No! Our
SafetyCrete EPDM rubber product never needs to be
sealed. Comparing our product to River Rock
is like comparing apples to oranges. Our
rubber granules are bonded together on the
molecular level and once cured, are bonded for the
life of your deck. River Rock is bonded with
an epoxy which is all the holds the rocks
together. Once the epoxy breaks down, the
rocks come apart. This is why you need to
seal River Rock once a year to ensure the rocks
stay together. With EPDM, you never need to
reseal anything since rubber granules hold rubber
granules together and don't begin breaking down
until 15 to 20 years after the installation.
Q) How do I keep my
SafetyCrete deck clean?
A) You can use many
methods to clean your deck and basically your
preference. You may use a garden hose to
rinse it off, a blower to clear debris, a shop
vacuum, an upright vacuum, or a pressure cleaner
up to 3000PSI.
